Together Under Trees:
Greenery, Sharing, and Sustainability in Corso Sempione
The project emerges from the ongoing disciplinary debate on the relationship between the city and nature as a pathway toward sustainability. In the context of Milan—a city undergoing profound transformation—the initiative responds to the urgent need for new forms of representation and participation in shaping the urban environment.
It proposes a vision of a “Green Milan” that integrates a systemic network of green spaces capable of functioning as ecological, economic, and social infrastructure, thereby directly enhancing citizens’ health and well-being. The project marks the beginning of a complex process aimed at rediscovering the city’s authentic character by redefining the balance between its urban fabric, the permeability of public spaces, and the provision of ecosystem services within the metropolitan ecological context.
The design approach explores interventions at multiple scales, from gardens to woodlands, with particular attention to green infrastructure as a European strategy for strengthening biodiversity in both urban and agroforestry systems. Using the Raggi Verdi network as a starting point, the case study investigates how public spaces can act as connective tissues between green corridors, fostering a dynamic exchange between the city and its hinterland.
